It’s officially summer here in the Camel City, which means things are heating up literally and figuratively. With the youngin’s getting out of school, Independence Day giving folks yet another reason to come visit #DTWS, and all of the usual local goings-on, it’s looking like July will be a busy month for our city. Whether you’re looking for some sun or shelter from the heat, there’s plenty of fun stuff coming our way in July!
Fireworks and baseball in one night? Could you get any more patriotic? (We’re trying to get them to serve apple pie with their ice cream, but so far, no luck.) The game will start at 6:30 pm at the Dash’s BB&T ballpark. After a fun night of baseball, games, and good food, stay and enjoy an extended fireworks show to celebrate Independence Day! Now that you, yet again, have the Frozen soundtrack stuck in your head, consider checking out the Ice Venture exhibit at Kaleideum for a day full of building snowmen (yes, in July), go ice fishing, and even ice skating (fine, it’s “sock” skating, but it still sounds fun). What better way to escape the heat than by visiting a winter wonderland that’s just right down the road? The Ice Venture exhibit is included in the cost of your Kaleideum ticket and free for Kaleideum members. Find ticket prices, parking info, and a map of the museum here. This exhibit is live now and will be around until September 8th.
Come shop for handmade, homemade, vintage, and repurposed goods from local artisans and businesses at July’s Firefly Market. Grab a beer or coffee at Footnote and then wander through the pop up market in the breezeway next to Design Archives on 4th street. Street parking is free after 6pm on weekdays and there are a couple of parking garages nearby, so carrying your goodies back to the car shouldn’t be an issue for this event. Get more details on the Firefly Market Facebook page.
